I spent the past two days chatting with young Floridians at Miami Dade Community College and the headquarters of Engage Miami, a youth civic engagement organization. These are some of the takeaways.
Interesting story. I'm curious whether anyone you spoke with had high school voter registration efforts on their minds? Young people can preregister to vote at age 16 in Florida. Sixteen other states have the same law. We've found the law is not as well known as it should be, and leading to the midterms most 18-year-olds were not registered to vote. https://www.thecivicscenter.org/blog/2022/6/10/in-florida-with-midterms-just-five-months-away-the-biggest-obstacle-to-youth-voter-turnout-is-low-levels-of-voter-registration-among-youngest-eligible-voters
Message to all those who say the problem is with all politics and politicians from on old radical from the 60’s…. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. The issues of climate, gun violence, denial of rights to individuals and groups, women’s right to control of their bodies for starters have only two sides… the right one and the wrong one. You can’t hide behind your own needs and be part of making the world a better place.
